Finally, after a long wait ICAN’s building project has moved on and we marked the International Day Against Illicit Drugs, 26th June by breaking the ground for the building project to be started. None of us actually planned specifically to have it on this date which has a lot of relevance to the work of ICAN but somehow Lord had planned it so.
It was a joyful occasion which was attended by the Board members and friends of ICAN, however we the missed the presence of Roger and Carol Smith our friends who have been instrumental in bringing ICAN to this stage.
The project will hopefully complete in 7-8 months time, it also depends on the severity of the monsoon season this year as it may halt the building work for some time. The contractor is planning to finish as much work as possible before the monsoon starts.
The contract for the construction work has been awarded to a company called ‘Mahan Construction Pvt. Limited’ which is owned by a Christian individual. They have earned a good reputation of doing reliable work among the corporate sector in Pakistan and we prayerfully hope that they would maintain their reputation. There were other bids which were lower than the average cost but our understanding was that they have underestimated the scope of work and would end up in problem.
The contract has been awarded against Pak RS. 5.8 million that is £ 45,700 approximately at the present exchange rate. ICAN has around Pak RS 3.4 million approximately including the money recently raised by Emmanuel Church, Stoughton.
Mrs. Seerit Samran the Director has worked very hard to bring these moments of ‘dream come true’. Construction work is a painstaking process and there were a lot of hassles before

the actual construction work started but she has endured it with all the prayers of the well wishers. Mr. Rashid Nasim the Admin Assistant at ICAN has supported the Director all along in achieving this.
A qualified professional is about to be hired to oversee the quality of construction work; he would give a written report fortnightly. This arrangement would cost a bit of extra money but would ensure the good quality of work by the contractor.
We give thanks to our Lord who made this possible for ICAN and we remember and acknowledge all these friends for their prayers and support:
1. Roger and Carol Smith
2. Michael Gradon
3. Warligham Methodist Church and the members
of House Group
4. Emanuel Church, Stoughton and the members of

5. Tearfund, UK
6. CMS-Britain
As the work at the construction site continues kindly remember in your prayers
